|Controversies||• In October 2016, a no-confidence motion was passed against Tukaram Mundhe by the corporators who were the elected representatives of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). They claimed that Tukaram was not respectful of the elected representatives. The corporators also claimed that Tukaram was a dictatorial leader who believed only in bureaucracy, but did not believe democratic values. • In August 2018, the elected representatives of Nashik Municipal corporation (NMC) led by BJP passed a no-confidence motion against Tukaram Mundhe. According to the letter, Tukaram claimed that he was taking arbitrarily made decisions and not bringing in elected representatives. Tukaram Mundhe spoke out on the matter, saying, “I only work as per law.” My method of working does not put anyone at risk, and is built on prioritisation. • On 28 June 2020, a former officer of Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd (NSSCDCL) lodged a police complaint against Tukaram Mundhe for Harassment and humiliation. In her complaint, she stated that Mundhe asked her to disclose internal information regarding NSSCDCL. She disagreed. - Tukaram Mundhe is a Maharashtra-cadre IAS officer of 2005-batch. His reputation is that of one the most upright and honest officers in India.
- Tukaram Mundhe was raised in a middle-class family of farmers. His home was made from mud brick. His childhood was spent working on the farms. He began his day with a morning in the fields. Then he went to school, then he returned to the farm. Unlike the other privileged kids, he couldn’t play after returning from school or even during the vacations.
- He used to experience long power blackouts in his village, which meant that he would often have to awaken at midnight to water his crops.
- His duties included digging wells and fencing, as well as sowing crops and doing heavy labor on farms. He also sold farm products at the markets, even though the fields had been folded.
- Mundhe didn’t blame his family, which was the best part. for He had to endure the trials through During his early years. He understood his family’s situation. He stated,
Because my mother did it and my dad was doing the same, I naturally wanted to try it. And I don’t think I did it grudgingly. It was something I chose to do. My father suffered a paralytic attack between 2000 and 2002. The 2000-2004 period was extremely difficult. for me. But it’s times like these when your ability to make decisions come into play. I also gained a lot of personal growth. Meanwhile, the MPSC training helped me to understand the functioning of the government to an extent.”
- As a part of his training, Tukaram received his first posting as Chief Officer of Municipality of Barshi block in Solapur. During his training, Tukaram took strong decisions and completed many major tasks. He demolished more than 15000 illegitimate encroachments, ceased unauthorised industries, stopped several illegal activities, etc. The citizen was also asked to observe law and order, or stay alert. for You must take strict action.
- After accomplishing his training, Mundhe was posted as an Assistant Collector of Deglur, Nanded. Mundhe spent four months at Delgur improving water quality and responding to hundreds of public appeals. He also took severe action against the Sand Mafia. Mundhe received death threats since then and was granted additional police protection.
- His actions that disrupted illegal businesses caused him to be subject to the wrath from powerful people. In the end, Mundhe was moved to Nagpur as CEO of Zilla Parishad. Mundhe visited schools on the first day of his assignment. The teachers were there to participate in a meeting and Mundhe was not intimidated. He suspended the teachers who were not present from their duties on the next day. After that, everyone started adhering to the rules and teachers’ absenteeism reduced from 12 percent to around 2 percent during his tenure. - Over the next few years, Mundhe worked as the additional tribal commissioner of Nashik (from March 2009 to July 2009), CEO of Zilla Parishad in Washim (from July 2009 to June 2010), CEO of KVIC in Mumbai (June 2010 to June 2011), and the collector and district magistrate of Jalna (June 2011 to September 2012). Mundhe kept his work ethic intact and was a model of good governance.
- From September 2012 through November 2014, Tukaram Mundhe was the Mumbai joint commissioner for Sales Tax (investigation Division). His post included the following: for It lasted almost 26 months. He encouraged local people to join the project and made it a popular movement. The program offered a range of incentives as well as disincentives based on how people worked. Thanks to the participation and contribution of individuals, drain line treatment has been improved and more than thirty thousand wells have been refilled in 282 villages.
- During Mundhe’s tenure in Solapur, open defecation problem was reduced, mining revenues were doubled, and the crop loans amounts also increased over three times. Devendra Fadnavis, then CM Maharashtra awarded him the Best Collector Award for his significant work.
- During his tenure as the Municipal Commissioner of Navi Mumbai, he started a variety of innovative initiatives and processes. These included; online grievance redressal system, ease of doing business, cashless initiatives, solid waste management initiatives, and walk with commissioner program.
