Judge Joe Brown was born Joseph Blakely Brown Jr., 5 July 1947 in Washington, D. C., United States. He was raised in Los Angeles’ Crenshaw district. He attended Dorsey High school, where he was valedictorian. In 1969, he came out holding a bachelor’s degree majoring in political science. He then joined UCLA where he received a Juris Doctor degree (J. D.) in 1973.
Brown started teaching while he was a student at law school. Brown was actually the first American African to serve as a Memphis City prosecutor. After a period, he opened his own law office. Then, he started working as a judge in Shelby County’s State Criminal Court.
