The Early Years
Juan was born April 10, 1954 in Colon. His parents were Alma Geraldine Williams and Rogelio Lopez L.Wills. When he was just four years old, his family fled Panama in a banana boat to America. Their family settled in Brooklyn.
Oakwood Friends School provided his education. After that, he attended Haverford College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1976.
Williams began his writing career at The Washington Post. One column was where he stood up for Clarence Thomas’s nomination to the Supreme Court against Anita Hill’s sworn testimony regarding his sexual harassment. He wrote a controversial column at the time. It was later revealed that Williams was accused of sexual harassment by several Washington Post employees. Later, he wrote another column in which he asked for an apology.
In 2000, he joined NPR as host of the daily talk show “Talk of the Nation”. Since 1997, he has been an Fox contributor. He has appeared on several shows including “Special Report with Bret Baier”, “FOX Sunday with Chris Wallace”, and “The O’Reilly Factor”. In 2010, he was offered a $2 million three-year contract and an expanded role at their network including a regular guest-host role on the O’Reilly Factor.
Juan also contributed articles to Fortune, The New Republic and The Atlantic magazines, as well as GQ. He has also appeared on television programs like Washington Week on PBS, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and ABC’s Nightline.
As an author, Juan has written several books like “Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Right Years 1954-1965”, “Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary”, and “Enough”. His documentary work has earned him an Emmy Award, as well as awards for both investigative journalism (and his opinions columns).
Juan, in his private life, married Susan Delise July 1978. Rae was their first child. Antonio, Raphael and Raphael were also born to them. He also is the grandfather to twins girls Pepper and Wesley.
