Gavin MacLeod, born Allan George See 28 February 1931, Mount Kisco, New York. He was born to George and Margaret See. His father, George was an electrician, and his mother, Margaret has worked for the family magazine, Reader’s Digest. Ronald was his younger brother.
Gavin was very interested in acting since a young age. He enrolled at Ithaca College to pursue a career as an actor. In 1952, he received a master’s degree in fine arts. He had previously worked for the U.S. Air Force for a few months. Later, he moved to New York City and realized his dream of becoming an actor. He began working at Radio City Music Hall shortly after. He changed his name to Gavin MacLeod during that time.

He was married to Patti Kendig in 1974. After their divorce in 1982, the couple split up, but they were reunited and married again in 1985. He has also briefly mentioned his struggles with divorce in his book “Back On Course: The Remarkable Story of a Divorce That Ended in Remarriage”.
