Bakari Sellers was made in America on September 18, 1984. Gwendolyn and Cleveland Sellers were his parents. Cleveland, his father was both a civil rights activist as well as a professor. His childhood was spent in Bamberg County South Carolina.
His education was at Orangeburg Wilkinson High School, Orangeburg, South Carolina. He held a Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in 2005 majoring in African-American Studies. In 2008, he was awarded a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Henry McMaster beat Bakari to the post of Lieutenant Governor. Bakari has also written an autobiography titled “My Vanishing Country”, representing the story of African-American working-class people who resides in the rural southern part of the United States.
