Bakari Sellers was made in America on September 18, 1984. Gwendolyn and Cleveland Sellers were his parents. Cleveland, his father was both a civil rights activist as well as a professor. His childhood was spent in Bamberg County South Carolina.
His education was at Orangeburg Wilkinson High School, Orangeburg, South Carolina. He held a Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in 2005 majoring in African-American Studies. In 2008, he was awarded a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Bakari has also written an autobiography titled “My Vanishing Country”, representing the story of African-American working-class people who resides in the rural southern part of the United States.
